Since they're two of my favorite series in gaming period, they'd have to really screw up to make me not enjoy it. It's got elements of WotS and Shiren the Wanderer. Once you get it you're so hooked you can't put it down, but most people don't get there and I don't know if I can blame them.Īnyway, looking forward to this. Between the dojo, the expanded combat style system, the new job variety, and nighttime activities, WotS 4 has way more to offer than you'd ever guess on an initial playthrough.Īnd that's the thing: you have to struggle blind through your first playthrough of any WotS game to "get it". The 4th game doesn't have countless characters with secret allegiances and motives (play enough of 3 and you'll be blown away by how many characters have the most insane plot-altering secrets), but it has a lot of hidden depth.

For a long time I felt like 4 was just a smaller, less ambitious WotS 3 with a far more straightforward story. 3 was even harder, and required a lot of time dedicated to understanding the new "inkling" system and far more nuanced branching paths available (seriously, some of the craziest story branches require the most precise series of event flags).Ĥ was the hardest for me to get into by far. Even after playing the first and loving it, getting into the groove of 2 was hard. In my personal experience with WotS every game has been difficult to get into. It's really a shame that the games haven't been commercially successful enough to warrant making that fabled 5th title Aquire was planning.

It's one of the most unique game properties ever and has a gameplay loop that is truly one of a kind. Way of the Samurai is one of my favorite series of all time.
